Tension is high at Lopii area in Turkana County after armed bandits struck the area and made away with unknown number of livestock despite the ongoing police operation in the region.
A contingent of security team engaged the bandits in fierce exchange of fire which left one officer with serious injuries.
During the Tuesday 9:30 pm incident, four police vehicles were extensively damaged during the fire exchange with the bandits believed to be from a neighboring community.
Turkana County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi while confirming the incident said the security team managed to overpower and repulsed the bandits who fled towards River Kerio.
“The situation is under control. We’ve intensified patrols and calm has been restored in the area,” said Ndanyi.
