Chaos and violence rocks Matungu and London ward mini polls

Must read

Chaos erupted at the London ward by-election in Nakuru County as police teargassed a group of leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

The lawmakers are agents of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for London Ward by-election, Antony Nzuki.

Langata MP Nixon Korir was roughed up by a group of youths at the Milimani Primary School polling station before Police lobbed teargas canisters to disperse senators Susan Kihika (Nakuru), Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) and other Tanga Tanga MPs who are the chief agents for the UDA candidate.

In Matungu, Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa was Thursday morning caught on video assaulting an election official during voting at the by-election in Matungu Constituency, Kakamega County.

In the video capturing the incident, a visibly angry Echesa is seen lecturing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official accusing him of chasing one of their agents out of the Bulonga polling station.

“Our agents are outside the polling station my friend. You cannot chase our agents outside. Why are you chasing them outside? Uliambiwa by who?” posed Echesa before slapping the election official.

“Sheria inasema call all the agents to witness sio kuita individual,” he adds.

The front-running candidates in the Matungu mini-poll are David Were (ODM), Peter Nabulindo (ANC) and Alex Lanya (UDA).

Echesa is allied to the UDA party, which is associated with Deputy President William Ruto.

Kenyans have since taken to social media to castigate Echesa and calling for his arrest.
