Somali elders and a group professional from Garissa County living in Mombasa County have asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi and the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti to crack the whip on politicians inciting locals over border row.

Speaking in Mombasa, the group led by Sheikh Hassan Sugow and Abdulqyum Sugor from Bernane Ward demanded Garissa Women Rep Rehema Jaldesa and Isiolo South MP Abdi Koropu questioned over their recent sentiments.

“We are asking the DCI and the Interior CS to probe these two leaders because they have continued to make some remarks over the boundary that we fear could not mean good for the communities living in the area,” said Sugo.

Sugow from Ladgera says the leaders have continued to make unwarranted remarks over the boundary row between Isiolo-Garissa County, something they say may spark new conflicts within communities.

The Somali cleric urged the warring neighbors to embrace peace as part of their Islamic virtues.

They now want the entire local political and security leaders from both counties to call for a peace dialogue meeting to solve the now protracted border dispute.

Abdulqyum Sugow,a professional from the Bernane Ward accused the leaders of violating the law by discussing issues of boundaries yet the matter is a prerogative  Independent electoral and Boundaries commission IEBC.

“The recent conflict at Kambi Samaki where some people were killed are still fresh in our minds, we do not want leaders who are focusing on dividing communities instead of fostering peace and harmony,” said Sugow.

The group now wants the national government to arbitrate the boundary dispute with Isiolo to avert further bloody clashes
