Karua: Uhuru plans to extend his tenure

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta does not want to hand over power when his term comes to an end in August 2022.

Karua charged that President Kenyatta has been revisiting the Judiciary after it annulled his presidential win in August 2017.

She said that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is a project for revisiting the 2010 Constitution and that the President is not happy about it.

“President Kenyatta wants to exercise unlimited power. This is a project to overthrow the Constitution. Now the BBI project is revisiting the 2010 Constitution which the President has always considered as an inconvenience,” said Karua.

Karua said the crisis at the top arises because some incumbents don’t want to hand over power.

“This happened in the US. We must stop it here in Kenya. The handshake has revealed itself to be an agreement between two people on how to share the spoils of power,” she added.

Last month, Karua-led lobby dubbed ‘Linda Katiba’, unveiled a website in which Kenyans could sign up to oppose the constitutional amendment drive.

In her continued her onslaught against the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020, Karua said the BBI project has been illegitimate and unconstitutional from the word go.

“We have seen MCAs get bribed with car grants and being intimidated. MCAs who voted ‘NO’ are now under investigation. Contempt of the rule of law has been the Jubilee government signature,” claimed Karua.

Karua claimed that Baringo MCAs who did not pass the BBI amendment bill have been asked to write statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
