Maralal High School Principal Wycliffe Ndunya Kiveu has succumbed to Covid-19.
Mr Kiveu died on Monday while receiving treatment at the Nakuru Nursing Home.
Samburu County TSC director Jane Mutua confirming the death said the Principal was admitted at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) last week, after developing breathing difficulties.
“It is unfortunate that the teaching fraternity has lost a hard-working, jovial teacher to the deadly virus, after he developed breathing complications last week,” Ms Mutua told journalists.
Dr Kiveu was referred to the Nakuru Nursing Home hospital last week, after he began exhibiting symptoms of the virus.
According to reports he urged his close contacts including to be tested after he tested positive to the virus that has so far claimed the lives of 2,348.
“Upon testing positive, he was hospitalized at the Nakuru Nursing Home isolation ward before being transferred to the ICU a day later,” Ms Mutua said.
It is reported that the deceased had come into contact with several education officials who have been administering the ongoing National exams.
This has created panic in the school with many fearing that there will be a spike in covid-19 infections within the school and among those who came into contact with Mr Kiveu.
Sources at the school say that Dr Kiveu was vaccinated against the virus about two weeks ago.
Before joining Maralal High School in September 2020, Dr Kiveu an alumni of Masinde Muliro University was the Principal of Ngere Boys High School in Kisumu for over one year.
