Inspect General (IG) of Police Hilary Mutyambai has ordered investigations into the alleged harassment of a female cop in Mombasa.
In a video clip that has since gone viral, the police officer ‘begs’ the Inspector General (IG ) to let her resign peacefully.
“Please allow me to resign from Police Force. I can do a better job outside than here. I have written a lot of resignation letters but they don’t reach the intended person because of corruption,” said the female police officer whose name is yet to be identified.
The police officer in the same video clip laments against unfair treatment and sexual harassment by her bosses and wants the Internal Affairs Unit based at Vigilance House to be disbanded.
On his twitter account Sunday, the IG said that the officer who is attached to the Traffic Department in Mombasa County had complained against a merchant and was subjected to an inquiry by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers resulting into a departmental action.
Mutyambai has now directed the Gender and Children Directorate to independently investigate the matter and give a report within seven days.
“I have learnt of a video trending on social media where a female Police Officer is captured lamenting against unfair treatment and sexual harassment. The officer is attached to the Traffic Department in Mombasa County,” said Mutyambai.
He went on: “An inquiry by the DCI officers resulting into a departmental action. I have directed the Gender and Children Directorate to independently investigate the matter and give a report within seven days.”
