An administration police officer in Nyamira opened fire at two of his colleagues before turning the gun on himself.
According to police report the assailant APC Julius Mdachi died on arrival to Nyamira Level Five Hospital.
The officer is said to have accosted his two seniors at the entrance of the Administration Police quarters where he opened fire on them.
A report in the Station’s Occurrence Book by Deputy Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) Nyamira Sub-County Chief Inspector Bernard Too stated that the officer had resisted the transfer of duty from the Governor’s residence.
“He was dissatisfied with impending deployment and was bitter about it. He had disagreed with them [his seniors] over deployment to the governor’s residence,” a police report said.
Those who were shot were Chief Inspector Nicanor Odhiambo, who is the Sub-county CIPU Commander, and Sergeant Amani Ali, who is in charge of the duty roster.
Sergeant Ali succumbed to gunshot wounds while CI Odhiambo is fighting for his life at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was transferred to with bullets still lodged in his right thigh.
Nyamira County Director of Health Silas Ayunga said APC Mdachi shot himself in the head.
Four spent cartridges were collected at the scene of the crime and the AK-47 rifle, which was loaded with 26 bullets, recovered by police.
