Francis Atwoli has been re-elected unopposed as Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General for the sixth term in office.
Speaking after his re-election, Atwoli vowed to serve workers with diligence.
In his twitter account Friday, Atwoli thanked all Kenyan workers for his re-election to office through their registered Trade Unions representatives as COTU SG.
“I want to thank all Kenyan workers for re-electing me unopposed, through their registered Trade Union Representatives, as the Secretary General,” said Atwoli on his twitter page.
He went on: “I promise to serve you with all my mighty and strength and not betray the trust you have bestowed in me.”
Atwoli has served in that capacity since he was first elected in 2001 and in 2019, he was unanimously elected as Workers Spokesperson and Chair of the Workers Group during the official opening of the 14th International Labour Organization (ILO) African Regional meeting in Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire.
But Atwoli’s rival, Kenya National Union of Nurses Secretary General Seth Panyako, has threatened to file a suit to nullify the election.
“The election was a sham. I can assure you that the court will cancel that election. Atwoli locked me outside. He is the one who vetted who applied and appointed the delegates. How can you have an election of that kind?” posed Panya
